In 2023, SWR developed the Global Reference Framework (GRF)—the first comprehensive global analysis defining what sustainability in wine truly means. The GRF forms the foundation of our benchmarking work, and, alongside the scoring matrix, enables SWR to evaluate each wine sustainability standard across a range of critical issues. To test this scoring process, we conducted a pilot study on a select group of wine sustainability standards. We're pleased to report that this process has worked extremely well in practice.
In this exclusive members-only webinar, SWR will present the results of that pilot, covering seven standards: California Certified Sustainable Wine (CCSW), Equalitas, Fair N'Green, Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ), Sustainable Winegrowing Australia (SWA), Wine and Agricultural Ethical Trade Association (WIETA), and the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) scheme.
Key areas to be covered:
- Methodology: An explanation of how we applied the GRF scoring matrix and conducted an independent review for each standard.
- Insights from the process: Key observations, including the organisations' positive reception and openness to feedback, as well as how our process revealed insights that were not immediately apparent in the standards documentation.
- Overarching Issues Identified: A look at major themes, including addressing labor rights violations, balancing audit burdens with inclusivity, supporting continuous improvement, and the importance of local relevance in standards.
- Results of the Study: We'll reveal the scores for each of the standards included in the pilot and provide an in-depth discussion of the narrative comments for each.
Join us for this exclusive presentation to gain insights that impact the entire wine value chain—from producers to retailers. This is an important opportunity for members to stay informed and engaged in shaping the future of sustainability in the wine industry.
